Pegasus National Business Rules | Trade Certifications

A trade certificate is issued by the governing body when an individual has successfully completed a trade a qualification that is recognised within the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).  They are issued upon successful completion of an Apprenticeship.  Testamur certifying attainment of the requisite trade qualification (VET) qualification is a prerequisite to being issued with a Trade Certificate.  Trade Certificates are nationally recognised.

Other names a trade certificate may be known by:

  • Australian Recognised Trade Certificate
  • Certificate III
  • Certificate of Proficiency
  • Certificate of Competency
  • Certificate of Completion (By Victorian Apprenticeship System)
  • Certificate of Qualification
  • Craft Certificate
  • Craftsman Certificate
  • Trade Course Certificate
  • Trade Paper
  • Tradeperson Certificate

Other evidence types that clients may be willing to accept on escalation:

  • Completion of apprenticeship papers
  • Formal letter issued by governing body indicating completion of trade / apprenticeship that meets all competency requirement points below

Evidence types that would not be acceptable:

  • Transcripts - since they dont explicitly confirm full qualification completion; units only (which could demonstrate only partial completion)
  • Apprenticeship indenture papers - since are essentially only evidence that a contract has commenced; not that the contracted term of the apprenticeship was actually completed and the worker deemed qualified in the trade.
